Rubén Doblas Gundersen, better known as Rubius or ElRubius, is a 36-year-old Spanish-Norwegian streamer, YouTuber and entrepreneur from Mijas, Spain who helped define an entire generation of online content in the Spanish-speaking world. After launching his YouTube channel in 2006, his blend of gaming videos, absurd comedy and infectious personality quickly turned him into Spain's biggest YouTuber, eventually surpassing 40 million subscribers. Born to a Norwegian mother and Spanish father, Rubius spent part of his childhood in Norway before returning to Spain, an upbringing that helped shape the laid-back, self-deprecating humor that made him one of the internet's earliest global gaming stars. In 2016, Time magazine even named him one of its "Next Generation Leaders," recognizing the influence he had built far beyond YouTube.
Streaming became the natural next step. Rubius was one of the first creators to prove that Spanish-language live content could rival the biggest English-speaking channels, setting a then world record with more than one million concurrent viewers during a massive Fortnite event in 2018. Today he remains one of Twitch's most-followed streamers, mixing variety games, horror titles, GTA roleplay and just chatting streams with the same chaotic humor that made him famous in the first place. Collaborations with creators like Ibai, AuronPlay and TheGrefg have kept him at the center of Spain's streaming scene for years, while his influence can still be seen in almost every major Spanish-speaking gaming creator who followed.
